Finances, everybody’s favorite thing to talk about. When it comes to finances something that you must understand is there are some things that you need to think about when hiring a financial planner. For a lot of people hiring a financial planner is not something they think about but when it does come time to hire one you need to know how to do it.

The first thing you need to think about when hiring a senior financial planner is how old they are compared to you. The reason this is something that should be on your mind is not because older financial planners are better, because they are not always better, the reason is because you don’t want a financial planner who is about to retire when you are just starting to use them. The reason why you don’t want this is because having a relationship with one person for a little while and then having to go to a new financial planner is just going to make you lose the time that you had with the older person. Trust me, when it comes to a financial planner you want to find somebody that will be with you for at least a decade.

Another thing that you need to think about when hiring a financial planner is whether or not they share similar financial thoughts as you do. If you have somebody that puts an emphasis on stocks when you are very weary of stocks then you might want to find a different financial planner. My advice is to use somebody that you can trust with your financial future and if you can’t then keep looking around until you find the perfect person.

Do you want a financial planner with a lot of experience and certifications? The reason I ask this is because you will want somebody that is a CFP (certified financial planner) but is there anything else you will want. Maybe you want somebody that is a CA (chartered accountant) or even a AAFM (chartered wealth manager). Whatever it is that you want to get you should get. Don’t settle for somebody that you are not completely happy with but then again don’t set your standards so high that nobody can reach them.
